my daughter has an excellent dietician. she identified her problem Which a lot of docs didn't. she is on a good programme of diet and exercise + what her gynaec has given her. she follows it and except 2 treats a week instead of one. initially her weight loss was i kg a week. but from jan it has only been 4 kgs - she put on , lost, put on lost. currently she is 111 kgs (she is 6.1" tall) . Vitamin D deficiency is also commonly found in women with PCOS and supplementation may help. If you're interested in knowing your Vitamin D status, the test you want is 25(OH)D or 25-hydroxyvitamin D. Optimal levels are between 45-50ng/ml or 115-128nmol/L.
Another supplement, benfotiamine, which is a form of vitamin B1, has been shown to help insulin resistance. It might be safer than Metformin, the drug commonly prescribed for insulin resistance in PCOS.

Diabetic retinopathy is caused by damage to blood vessels of the retina. The retina is the layer of tissue at the back of the inner eye. It changes light and images that enter the eye into nerve signals that are sent to the brain.
There are two types, or stages of retinopathy: non-proliferative or proliferative.
* Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy develops first. Blood vessels in the eye become larger in certain spots (called microaneurysms). Blood vessels may also become blocked. There may be small amounts of bleeding (retinal hemorrhages), and fluid may leak into the retina. This can lead to noticeable problems with your eyesight.
* Proliferative retinopathy is the more advanced and severe form of the disease. New blood vessels start to grow in the eye. These new vessels are fragile and can bleed (hemorrhage). Small scars develop, both on the retina and in other parts of the eye (the vitreous). The end result is vision loss, as well as other problems.
Other problems that may develop are:
* Macular edema -- the macula is the area of the retina that provides sharp vision straight in front of you. If fluid leaks into this area, your vision becomes more blurry.
* Retinal detachment -- scarring may cause part of the retina to pull away from the back of your eyeball.
* Glaucoma -- increased pressure in the eye is called glaucoma. If not treated, it can lead to blindness.
* Cataracts
Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in working-age Americans. People with both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes are at risk for this condition.
Having more severe diabetes for a longer period of time increases the chance of getting retinopathy. Retinopathy is also more likely to occur earlier and be more severe if your diabetes has been poorly controlled. Almost everyone who has had diabetes for more than 30 years will show signs of diabetic retinopathy.

Hi, I can help you with this. I've been Diabetic for over 10 yrs. The first time you test is first thing in the morning,before eating & taking your meds. That is your "fasting level" for the day. Then, you know to eat small meals that have equal parts of proteins & carbs every 4-5 hours. (proteins being all meats,beans,peanut butter & carbs being pasta,potatoes,rice) I promise you it will become like second nature to you once you get it down. Then you can either check before your meal or most likely 2 hours after a meal & that way you'll know if you ate the right thing. Your fasting blood sugar should be between 75 & 125 & then 2 hours after a meal, you should be (where your Dr. would tell you) or if you ate correctly between 100- 145. Now every time your reading is over 170 it's killing your vital organs & you know you don't want that. It will take a while to "even out" & soon you'll be able to tell without testing if it's high or low. Of course you would still test to be sure. I found out the "hard way" that you really can't cheat & tell your Dr. that you've been doing good when you haven't because they have a test they do that tells wat your levels have been for the past thre months! AAAHHHH I know! BUT I assure you,if you just get used to this diet,you won't be hungry & the difference in how you feel is truely astounding! why do my bluray movies show at 24hz when my lcd tv supports 120hz?
i have a samsung lcd that supports 120hz refresh rate. when i played the movie avatar in my sony bluray player, it said it was playing at 24hz. in spite of this, the movie had a smooth framerate, though, which leads me to believe i don't understand refresh rates as much as i thought i did. still, is this something i should be concerned about? i'd like the best visual experience possible and if i can get it to 120hz then i'd like to know what i need to do.

Your television may support a 120 hz refresh rate, but ironically, few if any videos go that high. Movies are often 24 hz and HD television broadcasts usually top out at 60 hz.
So when a television says it's "120 hz," what that usually means is that it can artificially generate extra frames to "reduce the appearance of motion blur." However, people who have used this setting tell me that it looks cartoonish and that watching videos in their native refresh rate gives a more natural picture. If something is fast and outside of your eye's (or camera's) primary focus, you expect it to blur a tiny bit.
The only time televisions had an issue with too-slow refresh rate was in the early days of LCDs, when you could just tell that the screen wasn't keeping up with the action. But now that LCDs have a standard refresh rate of 60 hz, that's not an issue anymore.

I am a Diabetic looking to know Where can I buy a GlucoWatch Biographer or GlucoWatch G2 Biographer?
I have had Diabetes for 24 years & currently have to prick my fingers up to 8 times a day to test my blood glucose levels. I have been looking and looking for an alternative to this treatment & have seen 2 systems so far called GlucoWatch Biographer & GlucoWatch G2 Biographer but have NO idea how I would be able to purchase on. If anyone out here knows where I would be able to buy this product or a product similar to this then please let me know. For those not aware what this is like then it's a watch like monitor that is worn on the wrist & it keeps track of how sugar levels in the blood are doing.
