My 12 year old pekingese has been having some odd episodes at night sporadically over the past several months. She sleeps right next to my bed, where she has awaken me to the sound of of gasping, sometimes making odd noises. She goes limp, and during the last 2 episodes, she has actually urinated while this was going on. I thought by her making these gasping noises that she was suffocating, and I massaged around the bottom of her throat which eased this. But now I am not so sure if it is that at all. I took her to the vet who said it "could" be seizures or sleep apnea. It has just happened again this morning around 4:15 and it has got me totally scared. This time she actually made a choochoo sound which woke me up. She was fine acting before going to bed and later this morning. Any ideas what could be going on?
Seizures is probably the most likely thing. I don't know much about sleep apnea in dogs, but if it's the same as it is in people, it shouldn't cause her to go limp and urinate on herself. Sleep apnea in humans simply means that while you are asleep, you forget to breathe. Usually the worst thing it causes is snoring. You'd wake up before you suffocated, and when you wake up you start breathing again.
You might want to go back to the vet and ask for some medication to help prevent further seizures. Did they give you any instructions about watching to see if it gets worse, happens more often, etc? I'm surprised they would just send her home with nothing. Maybe you should get a second opinion?

The kind that kind of looks like a lolli pop, it just has a cylinder shaped sponge on the end, you suck on it and then put the cap on which forces saliva through a panel which contains about 5 drugs and the lines show up when its good. doesnt seem like any of your cheek cells, etc. can get through the sponge. I passed twice already, with once smoking a couple days before and the other being clean for a week. They tested someone at work already and 3 didnt work so they just said he had passed. It doesnt seem accurate to me when a lab isnt doing it.

i have diabetes in my family and a few times at work i have gotten dizzy and blacked out (this happens if i dont every three to four hours). the woman i worked with used to be a nurse and she said it was probably a hypoglycemic attack. i have had this problem for many years. the passing out happens when i dont get to snack at work or school. i also have very cold hands and feet all the time and i have headaches daily and frequent urination and dehydration if i dont consume alot of water. are these symptoms of diabetes? should i bother going to see my doctor about it?

Are you overweight?
Do you have unhealthy eating habits?
Do you live a sedentary lifestyle?
