My brother just got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure and he is on medication for both. nobody in out immediate family has had any of this before so hes the first one so nobody really knows what type of diet he should have.

also hes a truck driver so hes always on the road so it will be hard for him to eat home cooked meals.

He really should ask for a referral to spend a little time with a nutritionist to understand his restrictions. Also, many fast foods are more of a problem in the fat and salt departments than carbohydrates. The sodium could be a major contributing factor to his hypertension.

There is a use by date on the packages, but if they haven't been opened, still sealed, they are ok to use.
Do check them against a package of new strips. test with one of the old strips, and again with one of the new strips. Yes, there will be a difference in readings, but should be close rather than miles apart.

What is the best way to get rid of a nail fungus naturally?
I have tried every over-the-counter medication and prescription nail product that you apply over/on the nail, incl. White Iodine, tea tree oil, peroxide, lamisil cream, Penlac Nail Laquer & none of them have worked. I know you have to do it over a long period because of the slow nail growth, so I have. My doctors won't prescribe the Lamisil tablets for me because I'm diabetic and take too many other oral medications that can affect the liver. This drives me crazy, because I live in the tropics where we wear sandals most of the time. Aslo sometimes it's painful & very itchy. Lately I lost a toe nail, now it's starting to grow back & looks awful. Any MD's out there? Plz help.
I & my home are very clean. This fungus was caused by a previous injury to my toe. Diabetics have this problem often & strong antibiotics such as cytromax get rid of everything except fungus.
Please take my advise! I have used it and it is the only thing that worked for me!! Oregano oil. You can get it from any health food store or G.N.C. This to me is an absolute wonder herb.
And it works for a multitude of diseases, and fungus'.

People with diabetes often also require medications for several co-morbid conditions (including hypertension, dyslipidemia, depression, heart disease, pain syndromes). Yet, a vast literature abounds on the potential adverse effects of numerous medications on glucose metabolism. Thus, genuine clinical concern exists that certain medications used for treatment of co-morbid conditions and other indications (such as hormone replacement, contraception, infections) might worsen glycemic control in diabetic patients or trigger diabetes in others. These concerns influence therapeutic decisions in a manner that sometimes emphasizes avoidance of possible dysglycemia over effective control of the co-morbid conditions. The same concerns may also weigh against the otherwise appropriate use of necessary medications. The purpose of this concise book is to provide clinicians with actionable knowledge regarding the effects of various medications on glucose regulation and diabetes risk. Beginning with a brief overview of diabetes pathophysiology, the different drugs have been organized by class, and the scientific evidence for the diabetes risk and possible mechanisms have been presented for each drug. I was sleeping and I woke up and my heartbeat was really fast, my resting heartbeat is usually about 70 beats per minute and this time it was 95 bpm. Also when I got up I got really dizzy. And my hands are shaking a little bit. I am overweight and I have gone to the doctors in the past for chest pains a few times but every time they said there was nothing wrong with me on my ekg. I don't know, I am kinda scared a little. I am 18 if that makes any difference. My parents have diabetes so I used there tester to check my blood sugar and it was normal like usual (I don't have diabetes). I am thinking maybe it could be my blood pressure, I don't really know though, any ideas???
An extra note: I did drink some Vodka around 9 hours ago, it wasnt much tho, I drink maybe once or twice a month, but this has never happened before when I drank so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not, I just figured I would mention it just in case.

People with diabetes often also require medications for several co-morbid conditions (including hypertension, dyslipidemia, depression, heart disease, pain syndromes). Yet, a vast literature abounds on the potential adverse effects of numerous medications on glucose metabolism. Thus, genuine clinical concern exists that certain medications used for treatment of co-morbid conditions and other indications (such as hormone replacement, contraception, infections) might worsen glycemic control in diabetic patients or trigger diabetes in others. These concerns influence therapeutic decisions in a manner that sometimes emphasizes avoidance of possible dysglycemia over effective control of the co-morbid conditions. The same concerns may also weigh against the otherwise appropriate use of necessary medications. The purpose of this concise book is to provide clinicians with actionable knowledge regarding the effects of various medications on glucose regulation and diabetes risk. Beginning with a brief overview of diabetes pathophysiology, the different drugs have been organized by class, and the scientific evidence for the diabetes risk and possible mechanisms have been presented for each drug. My friend's cat was old and in bad health, it seemed to just hit him. They took him to the vet and he had renal failure and diabetes. What can I do to prevent my cats and dogs from developing diabetes?
Well, keeping them off of ingested/injected steroids is one thing. My cat has asthma, and many cats that are put on injected steroids develop diabetes as a side effect. So, if your cat has asthma (unlikely, but who knows), you need to see if they can be controlled with an inhaler instead of injected steroids.
Otherwise, the preventative care is just like what it would be for a human - they should be a reasonable weight (obese cats, like obese humans, are more likely to be diabetic), should have a good, balanced diet (some people recommend raw feeding), and yearly checkups.
It's likely that the diabetes in your friend's cat wasn't really sudden - he probably had diabetes for a long time before it was discovered. Kitties are good at hiding when they're sick, and sometimes you don't know till there are overt symptoms (defecation in funny places, eye trouble, etc). If you ever notice your cats drinking an excessive amount of water for no reason, be sure to take them to the vet, as that can be an indicator of diabetes.
