I have had diabetes since I was 4 years old (I am now 23). For all of the 19 years I have had it, my blood sugars have been in good control (A1c ranging between 5.8 and 7).
Are there any Type 1 diabetic women out there who have had 2 or more children and are not suffering any complications (ie, no dialysis, no amputations, etc.)? If so, I would like to hear from you about what you did during your life, your pregnancy, and your life after the pregnancy to maintain good health. I am especially interested in hearing from those who have had diabetes for more than 20 years.
While I am not a Type 1 diabetic with a child, my mother had three children and has had diabetes since she was 10 years old in 1935. She has taken insulin since that time. I was born in 1952 and my brother and sister in 1959 and 1962. She did have several miscarriages between myself and my sibling born in 1959. She lived her life and raised us like any normal family. Other than her occasional low blood sugars, she had no more complications than a woman without diabetes.
She has always maintained that you cannot eat sugar with diabetes. As a child she was underweight because she was not allowed regular bread, certain fruits etc because of the carbohydrate content. Growing up, she never ate anything with sugar added and we were very limited to what type of sweet foods we could eat.
To this day, she eat's sugar free everything, even though her endocrinologist has told her she can have small amounts of foods that are sweetened with sugar. She swears that is why she has lived to 85 years old with no complications that are common in diabetics like kidney failure, glaucoma, neuropathy, amputations etc.

Cigarettes are legal and look what it dose to you. I rather smoke THC than some formaldehyde. My personal experience with both, I prefer marijuana. I use to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, and I use to smoke in front of my children. That's legal, can you believe that? my children would have breathing problems, they get asthma, and more. Now I stop smoking cigarettes and went to marijuana. I smoke at nights only and I save more money not purchasing cigarettes every day and my children's asthma and other problems went away, and by the way I feel great now that I stop smoking cigarettes every day and all hours of the day. Agreed. I don’t smoke, but I definitely think it should be legal, provided that it is regulated like alcohol (no minors, and no driving).
It makes absolutely no sense that cannabis is illegal while alcohol and tobacco (both of which are MORE harmful and MORE addictive) are legal.
Legalization would:
- Create thousands of (legal, income-tax paying) jobs
- Devastate drug cartels, which would suddenly be without 75% of their income
- Provide an enormous windfall for the government, which would bring in billions in taxes and SAVE billions more on law enforcement (ending Prohibition played a big part in getting the U.S. out of the Great Depression)
- Allow police, courts and prisons to focus their resources on DANGEROUS criminals, rather than harmless potheads

I am training for chicago marathon this october. My first was last year and my average pace was 11 min mile pace. This year when I do my long runs it appears to be a little more difficult to maintain that pace while not exceeding the 70-75% heart rate zone. My heart rate appears to be at 10 beats faster at that zone this year vs last year and as I pass my halfway mark it is up to 30 beats. I have to slow down dramatically to get the heart rate down. Should I be concerned???
Also, I do notice that I have gotten a little dizzy after my last 2 long runs after I bend over and do a back/hamstring stretch afterwards. Other than that, my blood pressure is normal and I dont have any signs of arrhythmia. Only thing I can think of is maybe the time of day of my runs which is the middle of day at mid 80's but I think I keep hydrated enough.

Go to a doctor and have some blood tests run, including a CBC (complete blood count). My ability to run kept declining last year, and a CBC revealed that I had been developing severe iron deficient anemia. I don't know if that's what you have, but those symptoms are indications that something has changed in your body, and you should have your doctor look into it.

Does anyone have problems with the mask with CPAP for sleep apnea?
My grandfather is finding it hard to breathe while wearing the mask that is on his CPAP machine. He has a mask and just the tube for the nose but both make him feel like he's having a hard time breathing, and he's worried about wearing it at night.
That usually happens for the first few weeks after getting the machine. After awhile he will get used to it. If not, then he should see a doctor because maybe the mask is not sized properly.
